Free vision screenings

The Lewisville LIONS Club is offering free vision screenings for all ages the last Sunday of each month. Vision screenings are quick, non-invasive and available for all. Screenings will determine if there is a need to follow up with an eye doctor for glasses or other vision treatment. Registration is not required.

Lewisville facilities

Both recreation centers, Frederick P. Herring and Memorial Park, and City Hall will be closed to observe the Memorial Day holiday. All essential city services will continue to operate. Residential garbage and recycling collection will not be affected.

Art exhibit

The Visual Art League of Lewisville exhibit “Cell Phone Shots” exhibit will be on display through June 3 in the North Corridor gallery.

The exhibit will include photographs taken exclusively with cell phones or tablets. The photographs reveal the technical advancements in cell phone cameras.

Urban Texas exhibit

The Visual Art League of Lewisville exhibit “Urban Texas” exhibit will be on display through June 17 in the main art gallery.

The exhibit is the annual juried show by Visual Art League of Lewisville members. The exhibit will include pieces with a Texas theme.

Admission is free and the gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and during public performances at MCL Grand.

ESL classes for adults

Free English as a Second Language classes for adults are now being offered at the Lewisville Public Library Tuesdays and Thursdays. The classes are provided by Denton ISD Adult Education and Literacy and funded by the Texas Workforce Commission. Registration is required. Call Denton ISD at 972-350-3481.

Irish Gaelic lessons

The DFW Gaelic League provides free classes for anyone interested in learning Irish Gaelic. The group meets every Tuesday in the small conference room. Beginners of any skill level are welcome. The program is for teenagers at least 15 years old and adults.

Women’s conference

The Lewisville chamber will host the ninth annual Denton County Women Leading Business Conference and Expo. The fee is $85 for members and $110 for potential members.

Senior book club

For readers of fiction, biographies and nonfiction. Each month has a different theme and readers will be allowed to select a book that goes along with that theme.

The Lewisville Senior Activity Center will host its first Friday dance featuring Texas Strut – a three piece band that plays rock, blues and country with a Texas swing.

Acoustic jam session

The Visual Art League of Lewisville hosts free weekly acoustic jam sessions every Friday. All acoustic instruments and levels are welcome. All music genres are welcome.

June 3

National Trails Day

LLELA will host three hikes in two locations. The hikes are free with the $5 per vehicle gate admission. The first hike will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at LLELA. The second will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at Valley Vista Park. Hikers should meet in the Senior Activity Center parking lot, 1950 S. Valley Parkway for the second hike.

The third event will be a night hike at LLELA from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.

LLELA nature walk

The hike will last about two hours. There is no fee for the event; however, there is a $5 per vehicle entry fee payable at the gate by cash or check only.

Summer reading kick-off party

Celebrate the start of this year’s Summer Reading Program with the library’s annual carnival-style party. Enjoy free, fun activities for the whole family. Register for summer reading, then enjoy DJ Dano, games, building with Lego blocks, sidewalk chalk, photo booths, giveaways and more. The Lewisville Fire Department will have a fire truck on sight, and MARTY, the City of Lewisville mobile unit will be there.
