Smartphone Reviews: LG LX370 — Downsizing In A Positive Way
The people at LG are putting out ever better devices. They are now on their way to making them smaller to boot. The new LG LX370 is one example of downsizing in a positive way. Take a quick look at the basics of this new addition to the LG lineup.
The LG LX370 is set up as a slider phone with the keypad revealing itself vertically from under the phone. The LX370 is not a smartphone, so the abilities are limited, but the resulting price is congruent to the value. It is a super size to be toted in a pocket. It is just barely over four inches tall (4,06 inches) and under two inches wide. It is also average in thickness for a mobile phone at .63 inch. It weighs a lightweight 3,7 ounces.
The screen is a tiny two inches in size diagonally. This is prohibitively small for trying to use it to view web pages. The LG LX370 has a QVGA resolution, which means just 240 by 320 pixels. That is the average standard, and compared with the two inch overall size, is nothing to get excited over. Up above the screen to the right is the status light. This lights up to let you know when you get an email or when the battery is low. There is no accelerometer or touch capability.
The LG LX370 runs on the Sprint «One Click» interface. This is a user interface reserved just for Sprint phones and features eight shortcuts with fourteen different ways to customize them. You can create your own menu for more shortcuts. There is a special Google shortcut that puts you in contact with youtube, google search, maps and gmail. It is possible to install a widget on the home screen that presents a ticker tape style of news information.
On the back of the LG LX370 is the two megapixel camera. It supports four different resolutions, three quality settings and four color tones. It also has a timer, brightness, white balance, shutter tones and an option for silent operation. You can upload your photos to flickr, photobucket, facebook and myspace. You can take videos that max out the memory of the LX370. For audio, there are custom ringtones and real music ringers. There is no FM radio. There is no 3,5 millimeter headphone jack, but a 2,5 millimeter size is included for good measure.
Silver and black will be the colors you can get this small little cell phone in. It has a big battery that will last around six hours for talking. The high speed internet connection comes from EV-DO and is rather speedy. The stereo bluetooth will come in handy when listening to songs. There is a bevy of Sprint services that this phone can handle, including television. But remember, the screen is just two inches in size. If you use glasses, you may want to take a quick look at the size of the text on the LX370 before you buy it. It is going for $99,99 after a mail in rebate and two year agreement with the Sprint carrier.
